Fashion Design

Overview
If you find yourself doodling new designs and reading about latest designer offerings, fashion designing might be your calling. While there are known fashion designers who have created their own brand (Ritu Kumar, Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra, Tarun Tehlani), there are many who work behind the scenes with big brands (H&M, Zara etc.) to create fashionable yet comfortable clothes. Fashion designing requires one to study different fabrics and their properties. Designs are sketched on paper or digital devices and then colors, materials and textures of the final fabric are determined. Fashion designers study fashion trends by reviewing magazines and attending fashion shows. They understand the needs of the consumers and new fashion trends for their customers.


Qualifications
Designing requires one to clear entrance tests like NIFT, SET, NID-DAT, NPAT, etc. followed by a bachelor’s degree in related fields. The role requires one to be creative and innovative. However, that is not enough. Logical reasoning and problem-solving are a big component as you would deal with constraints of fabric and consumer needs while designing a product that becomes a trendsetter.
